Students in debate are expected to maintain a high standard of respect, responsibility, and commitment. This means treating classmates, coaches, opponents, and judges with professionalism and courtesy, both in and out of the classroom. Debate is a team-centered activity, so students should work collaboratively, support one another, and contribute positively to group efforts. Consistent hard work is essential—students are expected to put in the time to research, write, and practice regularly. Follow-through is key: when students commit to deadlines, practices, or tournaments, they are expected to follow through and communicate clearly if conflicts arise. Dependability builds trust, both on the team and in competition. Students should be open to feedback, eager to grow, and willing to put in the effort to improve. Above all, the class should be a space defined by mutual respect, focus, and shared dedication to learning, growth, and representing the school and debate program with pride.
